Shards is an exploration of memory, history, and transformation, inspired by the fragments of the past I discovered during walks on Kibbutz Shluchot in northern Israel. Over months of collecting ancient ceramic shards from the land, I documented each piece through sketches and photographs, leading to the creation of terrazzo tiles that fused these fragments with my own artistic process. The project deepened when an archaeologist revealed that many of the shards were over 1,500 years old, prompting me to integrate them into new ceramic cups, blending past and present. Ultimately, Shards speaks to the ongoing cycle of creation, destruction, and renewal, where even broken fragments continue to hold meaning and connect us to the stories of those who came before.
