Exciting News: “Digital Mizrach” Finds a Home at the Israel Museum – Jerusalem !

I’m thrilled to share some incredible news with you all: my digital artwork, Mizrach, is now on permanent display at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem! This moment truly feels like a dream come true, and I couldn’t be more excited.

Mizrach is a contemporary interpretation of the traditional “Mizrach” (Hebrew for “east”), which were placards or paper cuts commonly found on the eastern wall of Jewish homes throughout Europe. These signs served as focal points within the home, reminding us to direct our prayers and wishes toward the east. As the famous Jewish poet Yehuda HaLevi (c. 1141) eloquently expressed, My hear is in the east while I am in the uttermost west”.

The current digital version of Mizrach takes this concept further. It is a looping video constructed from various news reports during “Operation Pillar of Defense” 2012, which focused on actions against terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip. Today, this piece invites viewers to reflect on the complex narratives surrounding our connection to the east while examining the contemporary realities of our most recent conflict, the October 7th massacre against innocent Israelis by the Hamas terror organization and the ongoing war that  it has instigated.

I’m incredibly honored to have Mizrach showcased in such a prestigious institution. The Israel Museum is a beacon of art, culture, and history, and I am thrilled that my work can contribute to the rich tapestry of voices represented there. I can’t wait for visitors to experience Mizrach and engage with the important themes it explores.
